Y3 visit the Whitgift Almshouses

On Wednesday 26th April, Year 3 went to a trip to Croydon to explore the Whitgift Almshouses. This is linked to our History topic ‘Who was John Whitgift and what legacy did he leave in Croydon?’ We have been learning all about the life of John Whitgift and the charity he founded- The Whitgift Foundation.

We were amazed at how quiet and peaceful it was inside the almshouses- even though it’s in the middle of busy Croydon! We really liked learning about the history of the building and exploring the chapel, gardens and audience chamber. We spied lots of hidden details- like John Whitgift’s initials hidden on the outside of the building!
