Looking Back! Year Six Evacuee Day

On Thursday, 1st October 2026 Year Six took part in an immersive day looking back at British history and understanding more about the part the United Kingdom played in WW2. All of the children took part in traditional handwriting and spelling activities – lined up in the classroom in rows. We all learnt a famous dance from that era which was called ‘The Lambeth Walk’. In maths, moving on from our morning arithmetic, we shifted our attention to ‘Morse Code’ and how this played such an important and vital part in the war. The class are learning currently all about the evacuation so we all lined up for the train, hugging our prized possessions and waved a British flag. In the afternoon, after the children played ‘hop scotch and skipping on the playground’ we made a traditional biscuit from the 1940s when rationing took place. Basic ingredients and in the end the ginger, honey biscuits were very nice!
